Darning Tool Kit

These chilly winter months call for darning, stitching, and curling up by the fireside. Yes, please! These kits are there for your winter comfort.

Darning Tool Kits are made locally in the Hudson Valley of NY. These kits were lovingly designed to highlight local materials, local farms, and local artists' labor while resulting in a beautiful, yet practical, mending kit. I managed to find just *five* more of these soldout kits--please note that the yarn colors will vary with each kit but each will include a yellow (Goldenrod-dyed) skein, a white (undyed) skein, and then either a third skein in golden (marigold-dyed), orange (coreopsis-dyed), or lilac/ purple (Hopi Black Dye Sunflower-dyed). YOU'LL CHOOSE THE THIRD SKEIN COLOR WHEN YOU PURCHASE. These are the last hand-dyed yarns I have in my studio from this collaboration with a local farm and fiber mill--thank you for supporting this work.

Each kit contains:

-Three small skeins of local wool yarn (two plant-dyed by me and one undyed).
-One hand-turned wooden darning egg made with local wood.
-One needle book with indigo-dyed fabrics, local wool felt interior pages, and a handmade wooden button.
-Three metal darning needles.
-One pair of small metal scissors tucked into the pocket in the needle book.

YARN: The three small skeins of regional wool were grown on a small fiber farm at Wing & A Prayer farm in VT and milled at a local fiber mill in Upstate NY. The skeins result in 2-ply, long wool blend, fingering weight yarns perfect for darning sweaters, socks, gloves, hats, or other knitwear. THERE ARE THREE COLORS OF HAND-DYED YARN: One yarn is left undyed and is naturally white; one yarn is dyed yellow with Goldenrod flowers; and the third yarn is either dyed with coreopsis, marigolds, or Hopi Black Dye Sunflower seeds grown in my garden. All yarns are 100% local wool. Each skein is approx. 20-25 grams of yarn.

DARNING EGG: Each kit also includes one handmade wooden darning egg hand-turned by my husband using local wood, these are truly one-of-a-kind beautiful mending tools.

NEEDLE BOOK: Lastly, each kit contains one needle book designed by me and sewn by my former studio assistant in the Hudson Valley of NY using lovely patchwork cotton fabrics, one handmade wooden button, and the book pages are local wool felt. Each needle book contains three metal darning needles and a pair of metal scissors. Books measure approx. 4" x 4" when folded.

PLEASE NOTE: Hand-dyed yarns might have some slight variation in color or texture within the skein, this is not an imperfection but an indication of the uniqueness and handwork that went into hand-dyeing this yarn. There’s also some slight variation in the needle book fabrics as they were designed around various blue and white cottons, although each one is beautifully-made and contains three darning needles.

DONATIONS: A portion of sales will be donated to a BIPOC-led, sustainability organization doing essential work for a healthy planet.
