Mending Matters

Hi, I’m Katrina. I’m an artist and author working between sustainability, craft, and design. Mostly, I mend things: Jeans, sweaters, our old farmhouse, and more. I write books and articles; teach craft classes online and in-person; and design limited-edition art projects for my shop. Welcome. Let’s mend things.

Studio

At the core, I’m a writer and the heart of my studio is my newsletter, Love Letters. I write about mending, making, gardening, mothering, and being a rural artist in this moment on earth. I send it a few times each month. No spam, just thoughtful notes for folks interested in textiles, handcrafts, and slow living. I’ve written for various magazines and websites but Love Letters is only available to subscribers.

If you join, you’ll glean:

  • Inspiration on textiles, handcrafting, and slow living in a very old farmhouse

  • Early access to new classes, events, and shop updates

  • Occasional behind-the-scenes from my barn studio, unruly gardens, and ongoing house renovations

  • Links to awesome books, exhibits, and other delights

Seasonal Workshops

Craft Books

I love books! I’ve written three—Make Thrift Mend (2021), Mending Matters (2018), and The Paper Playhouse (2015). If you prefer to learn through thoughtfully-edited how-to books, I’m glad you’re here. My mending books are available anywhere books are sold. I often have signed copies in my shop and might even have Mending Tool Kits, depending.

Shop

I offer a small collection of thoughtful goods for makers and menders. Often tiny-batches sewn right here in the Hudson Valley of NY made with so much love. I share craft kits, redesigned textiles, art prints, signed books, and more.

What Students Say…

  • "An amazing mending class for all levels in a supportive, self-paced environment with a like-minded community. Bursting with techniques, tutorials, inspiration, & opportunities to share that will take you far beyond the class as you launch on or expand upon your mending journey."

    — Kathleen O.

  • "Yes!!! What a wonderful way to learn. So much positivity and support. I adore the term ‘mendfulness’, and have realized how therapeutic hand stitching can be. I’m excited to show off my perfectly imperfect mended clothing!"

    — Beth L.

  • Don't hesitate to sign up for Katrina's courses. They are delightful, informative and provide a real sense of community out there for hand crafters and those who are curious and want to learn.

    — Linda B.
